Bryony's London Marathon Attempt
April 25, 2010
Bryony Sacher is a 25-year-old primary school teacher in the UK who is running her first-ever marathon this spring at the Virgin London Marathon.  She has been working hard for the last 2 years to prepare.  Bryony admits that running does not come naturally to her.  Two years ago when she started her marathon quest, she would have "to stop 3 times during a 10-minute run."  But with hard work, time and dedication over the past two years, Bryony is comfortably up to 2-hour training runs in her quest toward the marathon.  Bryony recently wrote us here at the Entoto Foundation..."This is my first marathon and I'm hoping to run it in under 4 hours.  I believe nothing's impossible!"   Bryony is dedicating her first marathon attempt to raise money for Hiwot, a young Ethiopian girl in need of hip replacement surgery.  Way to go Bryony and good luck with your training!
Meet Hiwot...

Hiwot is a 14-year-old Ethiopian girl who is in desperate need of hip replacement surgery.  She is only able to walk with a crutch and despite medications, is in constant pain.  So much pain that she can no longer attend school. However, Hiwot is determined to continue her education and does her school work from home to keep up.

Dr. Eric Gokcen at CURE hospital in Addis Ababa has been treating Hiwot.  After consulting with US orthopaedists at the Mayo Clinic about her condition, doctors have concluded that surgery is the only option to relieve the chronic pain she suffers from.  Bryony Sacher will be raising money to help Hiwot by running her first-ever marathon this spring.
