Kids and Entoto Make a Great Team
In Spring 2009, more than 90 students from Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School in Carlsbad, CA, participated in the Kids 4 Entoto program. The program consisted of 5 weeks of training and conditioning culminating with Elite Racing's annual Junior Carlsbad race in early April. To prepare for the race, the kids received expert training advice from world-class athletes Monique Henderson, Steve Scott, Josh Cox, and Willie Banks, during an Entoto-sponsored training session at their school. The entire school supported the effort by running over 28,000 laps in the month of March during Entoto's Fitness Contest...that's an average of 7 miles per student! In return for their hard work training and racing for Entoto, friends and family sponsored runners with pledges. The Kids 4 Entoto team raised enough money to pay for 8-year-old Mekdes Tadesse's heart surgery.
Benefits of the Kids 4 Entoto Program:
Confidence Builder: Kids set a rigorous individual goal of running their personal best and achieve it.
School Spirit Builder: Kids feel the camaraderie of training with friends and classmates.
Character Builder: Kids learn about another culture and the importance of giving back to those in need.
"I felt like I was doing something that would change the world. The project was a lot of fun and I felt great that I could help kids who really needed it!"
